"Outting" PETA: Liberal Compassion is just another word for Hypocrisy

Recently New Max.com came out with an article on People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) headlined: PETA's Dirty Secret…PETA Kills Animals. By the Thousands. My first reaction was that the headline was the story. We all know that PETA is a bunch of histrionic hypocrites whose love for animals is exceeded only by their hatred of human beings but then I delved further. If PETA is actually euthanizing animals by the thousands then what is it really spending its cash on, and who funds them?

As it turns out PETA receives almost $29 million per year in donations presumably from animal lovers and other unsuspecting philanthropists. PETA spends $25,000,000.00, per year, leaving itself with an end of the year profit of approximately $4 million dollars as well as an asset class of $11,479,793.00.[1] (Such is the convoluted math of a 501(c)3. Go figure.) Can you imagine how many animals $29 million dollars per year could save? Instead, they are making a profit. Apparently star studded soirees and glossy advertising campaigns are more important then the protection of abandoned strays or spaying and neutering programs.

As if any more proof were needed that liberals are incapable of genuine compassion and are only interested in exterminating innocent life, PETA has enormous ties with the tragically misnamed Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). According to numerous sources and Consumer Freedom.com HSUS is one bad dude. Just this week the State of Florida pulled all of HSUS’s funding “after [it was] discovered that the ultra-rich HSUS doesn't operate any spay/neuter programs”. Incredibly, the Humane Society of the United States has over $113 million in assets and an annual operating budget of $69 million but it doesn't save any animals. Its own web site simply touts its public-awareness campaigns, programs, legislation, activist alerts, and educational publications. In 2002, for example, HSUS poured more than $175,000 into a Florida ballot initiative which gave constitutional rights to pregnant pigs.[2]. Not one red dime of this national committee actually goes toward saving animals. HSUS has recently merged with the national high profile Fund for Animals which is expected to bring in an annual budget of $ 80 million dollars, yet incredibly not one of the organizations runs a spay/neuter clinic or an actual animal shelter for abandoned pets.

Attempting to figure out the funding and affiliation trail of these organizations is a nightmare. All avenues, however, appear to lead to ever more radical groups such the notorious Animal Liberation Movement (ARM) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) both of whom are engaged in terrorist activities against medical research labs, landowners, farmers and meat industry affiliates under the guise of animal rights “compassion”. Evidently to liberals, tax free status means never having to say "I'm sorry for blowing up your medical lab".

According to PetaKillsAnimals.com, "Despite its constant moralizing about the 'unethical' treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, PETA has killed over 10,000 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2003, PETA put to death over 85 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public.

...PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified 'domestic terrorist' group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that 'blowing stuff up and smashing windows' is 'a great way to bring about animal liberation'.” [3]

PETA and HSUS’s radical mission consists, not in saving animals, but of giving lectures and seminars around the country to kill off the poultry and beef industries. According to activistcash.com they are affiliated with the Farm Animal Reform Movement (FARM) and Farm Sanctuary, the latter of which is “a 1920s-style ‘educational farm’ in Illinois, whose purpose was ostensibly to highlight the idealized vision of ‘old style’ animal husbandry and care for which modern animal activists yearn. Unfortunately, the exhibit forgot to highlight the excess animal mortality and increased incidence of human disease that came with this rural “utopia.” [4]

There is something inherently odious about an organization that bills itself as a champion of animal compassion yet, on the side, is busy euthanizing tens of thousands of healthy animals a year. Last year, PETA’s Virginia Headquarters took in 13,021 animals, adopted 2540 and killed 10,195. That is no way to run an animal shelter. You’d think with all that cash they’d be concerned with keeping those animals alive but I guess that isn't as sexy as those holier than thou ad campaigns. False piety is the sanctimonious liberal’s best friend.

It’s hard to conclude, given all the facts, that PETA and its affiliate organizations does any good at all- besides shameless self-promotion, accepting millions of dollars in tax free cash and promoting a society with all of the humanity of India. To PETA the ultimate liberal utopia consists of humans starving in the streets while livestock meant for slaughter, not domestication or worship, over-populate and run free. To be sure by their obvious actions and inactions, they are clearly doing nothing to stop it.
